Description:

Description for B&B:

Les Eaux Tranquilles is conveniently located in the picturesque village of Belvianes et Cavirac, at the northern end of the breathtaking Gorge la Pierre-Lys. This area has recently been recognized as an officially protected area of outstanding beauty. Situated 320 meters above sea level, our position on the edge of the village ensures that we are below the winter snow line, making us an ideal destination for both summer and winter vacations.

Our prime location also places us midway between Carcassonne and Perpignan, with a 40 and 50-minute drive respectively to these cities. Both Carcassonne and Perpignan have airports that serve various destinations in the UK, Belgium, and Ireland.

At Les Eaux Tranquilles, we have created a warm and friendly environment where guests can escape the stresses of everyday life. Our private park provides a sanctuary where you can relax by the river Aude, either sitting by the water or on our terrace, enjoying a bottle of wine while listening to the soothing sounds of the river.

During the summer, we frequently organize barbeques on our terrace, offering the perfect opportunity for our friends and guests to mingle and soak in the wonderful ambiance of the Pyrenees mountains.

The nearest town, Quillan, is just 4km north of us on the D117. It offers a range of amenities such as restaurants, bars, shops, banks, a railway station with connections to the main line station at Carcassonne, a coach station with links to Carcassonne and Perpignan, a tourist office open all year round, and a main post office. Quillan also hosts many outside concerts in its two squares during the summer, including the international folk festival that visits for two weeks in July. Belvianes itself enjoys its own three-day fete with live music and entertainment.

The region is abundant in vineyards and caves where you can sample and purchase local wines. A short drive away is the town of Limoux, renowned for its production of Blanquette, the first-ever sparkling wine in France, predating champagne.

Just a 50-minute drive away is the ancient Cité of Carcassonne, known for its magnificent spires that inspired Walt Disney to draw Sleeping Beauty's castle for the film. In July, the Cité hosts a spectacular fireworks display that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Our grounds encompass a large 0.75 hectare (2 acre) private park, bordered by the river Aude. The river, visited by Robert Redford a few years ago, is home to trout and salmon. Inspired by its relentless journey to the sea, Redford directed the famous film "A River Runs Through It" after reading a book of the same name during his stay nearby. Additionally, the Tour de France passes at the top of our road every other year.

Within a three-minute walk from Les Eaux Tranquilles, you will find our local Auberge, where reasonably priced meals are served with outdoor seating during the summer. It's the perfect spot to relax, dine, and watch the Tour de France.

There are also several picturesque lakes in close proximity, where you can swim or enjoy a picnic. And being in the South of France, we are just an easy hour and a half's drive from the stunning Mediterranean beaches, offering long sandy shores without the high-rise hotels commonly found in Spanish resorts. You can even take the coastal road to Spain and visit the charming French fishing villages nestled in the tiny bays. Why not bring back fresh fish from the boats and cook it on our barbecue in the evening, accompanied by an excellent bottle of Languedoc Roussillon wine?

We genuinely believe that your stay at Les Eaux Tranquilles should be as enjoyable as possible, regardless of whether it's for one night or two weeks. We take pride in providing the highest level of customer service, always going above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction. Don't just take our word for it – take a look at our guests' comments to see what they have to say.

We welcome guests of all nationalities and offer secure parking within our grounds, as well as a secure garage for touring motorcycles and cyclists, who are always welcome.

séjour d'une semaine aux Eaux Tranquilles
Review by: Michelle et Philippe Delaporte , Juil 31 2017 4:50PM
Accueil très aimable de Monsieur Kenway. Chambres très calmes et agréables avec literie de bonne qualité. Service efficace. Bons petits-déjeuners et dîners. Beau parc paysagé en bordure de l' Aude.

Directions

Travel directions from the north:
If you are driving all the way, take the Autoroute A61 to Carcassonne and take the exit at Junction 23. Follow the signs to Limoux, which will be on the D118 road.

If you are coming from the airport, turn left out of the airport. However, it is not allowed (but watch the French chap in front!), so you must turn right, go up to the roundabout, and come back on yourself. Just past the airport (now on your left), there is a right turn with a sign to Limoux. Follow the signs to Limoux, and you will pass the Autoroute junction 23 on the way.

Continue driving straight through Limoux in the direction of Quillan on the D118 road. When you reach the first set of traffic lights in Quillan, you will be 4km from our B&B. Drive straight on at the first lights, and the road number will change to D117 (although you may not notice it). At the second set of lights, again drive straight on. After about 2km, you will see a large sign on the right that says "Les Eaux Tranquilles." Keep going, and you will pass an Auberge (Auberge du Chalet) on the right. Our B&B is the next turning on the left, clearly signposted on the corner with Les Eaux Tranquilles.

Travel directions from the south:
Unfortunately, we are unable to put up any signposts due to the area's outstanding natural beauty. Therefore, you must drive down the D117 road to Axat. At the roundabout in Axat (which has life-size sculptures of local bears), go straight over and you will enter the gorge. Take caution and keep your speed below 50kph as there are some sharp bends. As you exit the gorge, there will be a large car park on the right, followed by a staggered crossroads. Cavirac is to the right and Belvianes is to the left. Continue on for about 50 meters and turn right. There are signs with "Les Eaux Tranquilles" on the corner.

If you get lost or encounter any problems, please call us.
