Located in the picturesque Poitou Charentes countryside, Airvault is a charming medieval village situated 60 km south of the Loire. At The Voltaire Bed and Breakfast, Jo Cottrell provides a warm and relaxed welcome in their 19th Century mansion home.

The Voltaire offers 4 spacious double and twin bedrooms, each uniquely styled and furnished, and all equipped with en-suite bathrooms. Our main focus is to ensure that our guests have a pleasant and comfortable stay, whether it's for a night, a few days, a week, or longer. The tranquil ambiance and cozy atmosphere of The Voltaire often results in guests enjoying longer and more restful sleep than expected, leading to the option of serving breakfast as late as 12pm.

Each guest bedroom features a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. We provide thick bath sheets, hand towels, and handmade soaps for your convenience. The beds are either kingsize or twin single, adorned with 100% cotton bed linen and Egyptian cotton duvet covers with a high thread count. The deep sprung mattresses ensure optimal support and comfort. If needed, we can arrange a temporary bed for a child under 12. All rooms have ample storage space for your belongings and comfortable seating.

The B&B also boasts a cozy library with an open fire during winter, offering a selection of books and board games, as well as a cooler styled sitting room with a tranquil atmosphere.

When weather permits, guests can enjoy the outdoor spaces. The walled garden at the back of the property receives morning sun, making it an ideal spot for breakfast on the lawn. As the day progresses, the garden offers shade during the hottest hours, ensuring a cooler environment. The front area of the house features a raised swimming pool available during warmer months and enjoys sun throughout the day, making it a perfect sun trap.

Our continental breakfast includes freshly locally baked croissants and baguettes, Airvault honey, homemade marmalade and conserves, fruit juice, coffee, tea, and chocolate.

Upon request, we offer evening meals consisting of 4 courses, accompanied by wine and/or soft drinks, as well as coffee. The cost is 22 euros per adult and 12 euros per child under 12. We strive to provide seasonal and local fare, so the menu may vary day to day and according to the time of year. Picnics can also be arranged with prior notice.

Situated in an idyllic and unspoiled part of France, Airvault benefits from one of the highest annual sunshine levels, second only to the Côte d'Azur. It is also located in the heart of the largest sunflower growing region in France.

Being on the outskirts of the village, with its stunning architecture, most amenities are within a short walk, including bakeries, butcher shops, restaurants and bars, banks with cash machines, a chemist, and a local market every Saturday morning offering fresh produce.

Surrounded by historic towns and villages, beautiful countryside, and swimming lakes, The Voltaire is also conveniently located near popular attractions such as Futuroscope, a virtual reality theme park, Vallée des Singes, a monkey park where visitors can interact with the monkeys, Puy du Fou, a medieval theme park with various spectaculars, and La Venise Verte, the intricate waterway system of Marais Poitevins that can be explored by flat bottomed boats. Additionally, being only 60 km south of the Loire Valley, guests have easy access to numerous chateaux and vineyards.
